Semarang, 13 July 2026 – The Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of Universitas Diponegoro, officially inaugurated the IRUD Summer Course 2026 through its Opening Ceremony on Monday, 13 July 2026. Held under the theme “International Crimes and the Struggle for Justice: Power, Norms, and the Future of International Law,” the program served as an international academic platform for discussing contemporary issues surrounding global justice, international law, and conflict resolution through online class (Zoom meeting). The program spanned one month, beginning with the opening ceremony and intensive class sessions from 13–16 July 2026, followed by post-program assignments and academic outputs until 13 August 2026.
The Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences welcomed all of the participants from various university and institutions into The IRUD Summer Course 2026. This year’s program welcomed a total of 132 participants, consisting of 88 domestic participants from across Indonesia and 44 participants affiliated with overseas university and institutions. The diverse composition of participants demonstrated the program’s growing international reach and its role in fostering intercultural dialogue and scholarly collaboration.
The IRUD Summer Course 2026 is designed to strengthen critical thinking on structural constraints facing global justice mechanisms, examine how power asymmetries shape the enforcement of international norms, critically assess the effectiveness of international peace institutions, explore innovative approaches to accountability and post-conflict justice, and strengthen international academic dialogue and research collaboration. Through these objectives, the program aimed to enhance participant’s critical thinking while expanding the discussion of sustainable global academic networks. Furthermore, there will be a thematic assignment after all the class session followed by publication chance into IR Department student journal and or several journal on FISIP UNDIP’s journal repositories.

Throughout the program, participants would engage in interactive sessions led by distinguished scholars and practitioners, including Prof. Laura J. Shepherd (University of Sydney), Prof. Srinjoy Bose (University of New South Wales), Dr. Nathaniel George (SOAS University of London), Suwita Hani Randhawa, PhD (UWE Bristol), Prof. Madya. Dr. Suyatno Ladiqi (Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin), alongside leading academics from IR Department in Universitas Diponegoro. Together, they would discuss key issues such as Women, Peace and Security (WPS), genocide, aggression, ecocide, and the future of international peace accountability.
Specifically, the academic program would be structured into four thematic class days in which every day consisted of two sessions. The first day’s theme would be “Women, Peace and Security: Progress and Barriers in Global Politics” and “Women in Post-Conflict”, focusing on the role of women in global politics. The second day would be talking about “Global Justice at a Crossroads: Power, Norms, and the Future of International Law” and “Politics of Condemnation on International Crimes”. On the other hand, day three would carry the theme “Genocide and Global Politics: Power, Interests, and the Failure of International Law” and also “Aggression and State Power in Contemporary International Politics”, discussing the influence of power and political interest on international politics. Lastly, the fourth day sessions would be talking about “Ecocide in Contemporary Global Politics” and “Ecocide, Jus in Bello, and International Accountability”.
Through the IRUD Summer Course 2026, Universitas Diponegoro reaffirmed its commitment to advancing The World Class Faculty through internationalization by providing an inclusive platform for academic exchange, promoting evidence-based discussions on pressing global issues, and fostering long-term partnerships among students, scholars, researchers, and practitioners from Indonesia and around the world.
