Semarang, 13 August 2026 — The Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro, officially concluded the IRUD Summer Course 2026 through a closing ceremony that celebrated participants’s academic achievements, reflections, and experiences throughout the program. Held under the theme “International Crimes and the Struggle for Justice: Power, Norms, and the Future of International Law,” the program brought together 132 participants, consisting of 88 participants from Indonesian universities and 44 participants affiliated with international institutions.
The month-long program provided an international academic platform for students, academics, and practitioners to explore contemporary challenges surrounding international crimes, global justice, international law, and peace and security. Through four interactive class sessions, participants engaged directly with distinguished scholars from Indonesia and abroad, examining the relationship between international law, political power, global norms, and accountability.
The academic discussions featured Prof. Laura J. Shepherd from the University of Sydney, who discussed “Women, Peace and Security: Progress and Barriers in Global Politics,” alongside Nadia Farabi, PhD, who presented “Women in Post-Conflict Resolution.” The second session featured Prof. Ika Riswanti Putranti, PhD, discussing “Global Justice at a Crossroads: Power, Norms, and the Future of International Law,” and Dr. Mohamad Rosyidin, who examined the “Politics of Condemnation on International Crimes.” The third sessions continued with Prof. Srinjoy Bose, presenting “Genocide and Global Politics: Power, Interest, and the Failure of International Law,” and Dr. Nathaniel George, addressing “Aggression and State Power in Contemporary International Politics.” The final class session featured Suwita Hani Randhawa, PhD, on “Ecocide in Contemporary Global Politics,” and Prof. Madya. Dr. Suyatno Ladiqi, discussing “Ecocide, Jus in Bello, and International Accountability.”
The closing ceremony followed a series of activities, beginning with the Opening by the Master of Ceremony, followed by remarks from the Head of the Department, and a Program Report delivered by the Program Coordinator, Dewi Setiyaningsih, S.IP., M.A. The event then continued with a Review and Integrative Discussion, bringing together key insights from the course.
The ceremony also featured a video playback highlighting memorable moments from IRUD Summer Course 2026, followed by the Awarding Session, recognizing outstanding participants throughout the sessions and the participants with the best final assignment. Finally, participants were invited to share their remarks and reflections, marking the conclusion of an enriching academic journey and reinforcing the program’s commitment to continue international academic collaboration.
As the IRUD Summer Course 2026 came to an end, the closing ceremony served not only as a celebration of achievement but also as a reminder of the importance of sustained dialogue and collaboration in addressing global challenges. The program aims to foster stronger academic networks, collaborative research, and deeper understanding of international law and global justice beyond the conclusion of the course.
