The idea of Drs. Warsito, SU, who at that time served as Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), became the initiator of the International Relations (IR) study program in mid-August 2010. Considering Indonesia’s expanding diplomatic relations with other countries across five continents, which extend beyond political, military, economic, and cultural ties to other aspects,

This expanding diplomatic relationship naturally has a significant, natural, and unavoidable impact, including on Indonesia. Many universities with International Relations programs make significant contributions to the country, but they are not considered optimal. Therefore, Drs. Warsito, SU, believes that the International Relations program is expected to contribute to the Indonesian government in establishing relationships with other countries so that they can continue to be well-established, develop, and minimize potential negative impacts.

To realize this hope, support is needed from other study programs within the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), such as Government Science, Business Administration, and Public Administration, as well as other long-established faculties under the auspices of Diponegoro University. These include the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Cultural Sciences, which can be invited to participate in developing the new study program. This is also supported by other relevant institutions, both domestic and international. This will enable the International Relations study program at FISIP, Diponegoro University, to utilize and develop the diverse potential spread across various environments.

The International Relations study program at FISIP, Diponegoro University, focuses on international cooperation in addressing international/transnational crime. This concentration was chosen because the program aims to contribute ideas to the Indonesian government and other parties regarding how to address the various types of crimes that arise as a consequence of increasingly intense relations between countries today.

After the idea of establishing an International Relations study program received support from relevant parties within Undip, a formal proposal was drafted. For this purpose, written support from external parties regarding the need for the study program was required. Another requirement was to collect letters of willingness from lecturers to teach in the International Relations study program and complete other technical preparations. However, after the proposal was completed and approved by the Senate and the Rector of Diponegoro University, it was canceled to be sent to the Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education, due to new regulations requiring online submission of proposals for establishing new study programs and new requirements.

In accordance with the Directorate General of Higher Education’s instructions, Forms 1, 2, and 3 were completed in full. After obtaining a registration number, the following steps were followed. After Forms 4 and 5 were approved, the Indonesian Government, through the Directorate General of Higher Education, authorized Diponegoro University to establish an International Relations Study Program (Bachelor’s Degree) at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) – Diponegoro University (UNDIP), through letter number 809/E/T/2011, dated June 13, 2011.

After the Rector of Diponegoro University sent a letter to the Directorate General of Higher Education expressing his willingness to directly lead the implementation of the mandate and begin administrative and academic preparations, in August 2011, Diponegoro University opened registration for new students through the Independent Examination (UM) pathway. 1,100 applicants were registered, but only 120 were accepted.

On December 7, 2011, the Indonesian Minister of National Education issued Decree No. 285/E/O/2011, granting permission for the International Relations Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) of Diponegoro University.
