Diplomasi parlemen Indonesia berperan penting dalam menjaga stabilitas keamanan Asia Tenggara yang kompleks, terutama dalam menghadapi sengketa teritorial di Laut Cina Selatan serta ancaman non-tradisional seperti terorisme dan kejahatan transnasional. Sebagai pemimpin ASEAN, Indonesia melalui DPR RI dan Badan Kerja Sama Antar-Parlemen (BKSAP) dapat terlibat lebih fleksibel dalam isu-isu sensitif yang sulit dijangkau oleh diplomasi eksekutif. Diplomasi parlemen Indonesia juga aktif dalam forum internasional seperti ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) untuk memperkuat keamanan maritim, hak asasi manusia, dan perubahan iklim.
